Three Summers Classes Online this Summer

We will be only offering the Three Summers classes online this summer. Joe and I will teach EPSY 5194: Seminar via WebEx from June 29 to July 10 from 8:15 a.m. EDT to 12:30 p.m. EDT.  We believe we can best offer the seminar, discussion experience synchronously through interactive video via Webex. Class will run each morning during those two weeks, just as we planned it for the summer.

For those of you who planned to take EPSY 6770 (Multiple Menu) during the afternoons of Three Summers, we are substituting EPSY 6770 with EPSY 5740: Strategies for Differentiating the Grade Level Curriculum. Catherine Little is teaching that course online asynchronously from June 8 to July 10.  We have adjusted SuperComp to reflect that course (instead of MMM) for those who have this replacement. Third year students will still take SuperComp on Saturday, July 11 using UConn’s secure browser system from home. You will need a laptop with a camera and UConn’s secure browser connection. I will still conduct study sessions over lunch after seminar each day…only virtually from 1  to 2 p.m. using Webex. For those of you coming from the certificate program, you may already have taken EPSY 5740. In your cases, Catherine will work with you to register for a replacement class other than EPSY 5740.

Some have also asked about Dr. Little’s class possibly conflicting with your end of year teaching and also running during Seminar this summer. I asked Dr. Little to address this and her response follows:

We understand that some of you may have concerns about completing EPSY 5740 in five weeks including time that you may be also teaching. I recognize also that most of you will be doing the seminar course during a portion of the 5740 schedule. I will be refining the course activities based on awareness of these demands, while still ensuring sufficient engagement and rigor to support your growth and meet expectations for a three-credit course. Then I will also make additional adjustments as needed for individuals. I am hoping to have a lot of the details up and available before mid-May in case people want to get into anything early, and then I have no problem extending some of the assignments until later in the summer as needed.

Several of you have asked about Confratute credit. If you need Confratute credit this year in order to graduate and want to graduate before next summer, we can arrange an independent study to replace Confratute credit. If you don’t need or want to graduate before next summer and would like to attend Confratute, you should just wait and register for Confratute next summer. Those who want to replace Confratute with an independent study should contact me. You can register for the independent study this summer, fall, or spring. Summer is very busy, so I would suggest fall or spring, but the decision is up to you.

Each of us has experienced changes in our work and home lives as a result of Covid-19. At this unprecedented time of change and uncertainty, we think of all of you and hope you are safe and doing well. Feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions. Judith will also be periodically communicating with you regarding registration issues and paperwork necessary for those who plan to graduate this summer and fall.

While we will miss working with each of you in person, we are looking forward to seeing you online.

Stay safe,

-Del (on behalf of the entire Three Summers and Renzulli Center family)
